The Coldstream Guards
Her Majesty’s Coldstream Regiment
of Foot Guards, also known officially
as the Coldstream Guards, is the
oldest regiment in the British Regular
Army in terms of continious active
service. The Regiment is ranked second
in order of precedence, behind the
Grenadier Guards because the
Regiment was originally formed in
Scotland in 1650 to serve in the
New Model Army, which was the
army formed by the Parliamentarians
in the English Civil War. The army was
disbanded in 1660 after the Restoration.
The Regiment in the past had been referred
to as the 2nd Regiment of Foot Guards but
this term has fallen in to disuse.
The Coldstream Guards maintain their active
1st Battalion and a seperate Active Company,
No. 7 Company, which carries the responsibility
to maintain the Colours and Traditions of the deactivated
2nd. Battalion. The Headquarters-Coy Company of the Coldstream
Guards, has the responsibilty to maintain the Colours and Traditions
of the dormant 3rd Battalion.
The Coldstream Guards have received 117 Battle Honours........
including Waterloo, Tel-el-Kebir, Mons, Menin Road, Flanders,
Dunkirk, Tobruk, Salerno, and The Gulf War.
